Frequently Asked Questions

“When can we meet?“

You can check our availability on the calendar by clicking on the “Book Now” button on the home page and you will see the hours we have left for the next 90 days.  You can book by clicking on the time you want and we will contact you on that day and time.

“Do you work on the weekends and do you work at night?“

You can see from the calendar of available times that most of our tutors work from 8AM-11PM Eastern Standard Time.  We enjoy what we do so there is rarely a time we won’t jump at the chance to do it.

“Can you tutor more than one student at a time?“

Absolutely.  Most of us have experience teaching classes with 40+ students.  As tutors though, we can see 4 or 5 at a time and this enables students to save money as we charge ½ the fee for each additional student.

Why do some of your teachers cost more?

You get what you pay for. Higher paid tutors will help you accomplish your goals more quickly. Some of our professors have decades of experience and sometimes can provide a semesters worth of help in one session. Some of our professors are less experienced and do not yet have many reviews. We start tutors out at a low pay rate, but as their skill and popularity increase, so does the amount that we pay them.

“I need someone who is extremely patient and will take time to help me, are you that person?“

Yes we are!  You will find that we hire very patient tutors. We I encourage our students to ask questions and we are very sensitive as to whether they understand the answer and if we think they don’t understand, we go over it again with another example and then we think of a question that they might be asked to find out if they are understanding. We will keep on and on until our student understand the material.

“Can you help me with masters and doctoral level statistics or math?”

Yes.  Dr Lunsford and Mr. Kreighbaum have worked with all levels of these topics and when we are unable to help, we find someone who can. We have a number of colleagues who are prepared to work with students on a one-on-one basis to help them succeed at every level.

“Can you come speak to our school?“

Some of us can, depending on location. We have spoken at many schools and colleges over the last 20 years and would be happy to speak for any group at a very reasonable fee.

“Do you have references?”

Yes, we have hundreds of them! Check out the reviews page.

If you look on the bottom of each of the pages of the subject you are interested in, you will find the comments made by people who have had that specific type of tutoring. Most of our references come from outside sources such as Thumbtack. If you need to speak to someone about our approach and ability to help, give Tutor With the Best a call and we will provide further references.

“What assurance do I have that you are any good?”

We offer a no questions asked, 100% Money Back Guarantee!

If you are still in doubt after reading the student reviews, then give us a call.

As soon as we are on a break, we will call you back and explain how we help our students excel.

By how much can I expect grades or scores to increase by?

It all depends on what the current grade or score is... However, students that are tutored by us see on average whole letter increase (Such as, from a B to an A). Our SAT students typically increase their score by 100 points in a single lesson.

"What certifications do you have?”

Under “About Us” you can learn about each of our professors. We require plenty of previous experience before being able to join us. The credentials for our other tutors will be listed on the pages about them.

Dr. Doug Lunsford has a PhD in Measurement and Evaluation, a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, a BA in Psychology have been certified as a Florida Supreme Court Circuit Civil and Family Mediator. I have a number of other awards but these are enough to display.

Prof. Kevin Kreighbaum has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics.

Dr. Frampton has a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry

“What makes you different from other tutors?”

We don’t simply tutor subjects – we tutor people.  We try to read between the lines about what the student needs and we work to fulfill that need.

For example, Dr. Lunsford says “When a child has difficulty understanding numbers as a concept, I teach finger-math, or when a student can’t understand why they need to learn a formula, I work on why.  Because I require the students to keep me updated on their progress as they work, they get to know that I care that they learn. Because I record my sessions, the student can go over and over what I show them.  Finally, I try to break down each solution into steps that the student can learn by practicing the steps.”

What do I need to bring to the call?

Please have at least the following information at your disposal:

- Materials that we will be tutoring, such as worksheets and tests.

- A computer is best so that we can easily interact during the video call. There are times when a tablet or phone could work.

“Can you work with children who have disabilities like ADHD?“

Yes, Dr. Lunsford has a masters degree in clinical psychology. He has learned a great deal about the problems faced by children who have learning disabilities. His experience with students with learning disabilities is growing constantly.

“Do you work with people who have reading disabilities?“

Yes, Dr. Lunsford has learned that students with reading disabilities sometimes need special attention to get the results that other children seem to pick up without trying.  He has a number of techniques that work with improving the reading ability of students.

“Explain how your approach is different for people who have learning disabilities or math disabilities?“

During an assessment, we discover what the student needs.  We realize that when we work together, we both learn about what works best so the student will learn.  We develop techniques that work for that student.

“Can you give a discounted rate for block bookings?“

We offer a 10% discounts for 10 unbreakable bookings paid in advance. When a booking is unbreakable, it means that if the student can’t make it, it is already paid for and there is no refund.

“Is your price fixed? Is there a way to get a discount?”

If a family needs help with a student and they are unable to afford my service, we can sometimes “cut them a break” but it depends on the situation.  We do what we do because we love it and getting paid for it makes it magical.  Tell me your situation and if it warrants a break, we can come to an agreement.

Where are you Located?

Many of our professors are located in Central Florida. That said, because we do online tutoring, the issue of time zone really shouldn’t matter. Just check our calendar for availability.
